The brief for the renovation of this gorgeous home in Narrabundah was to update the kitchen and laundry space in the existing floor plan, whilst keeping the authentic feel of the original cottage. Of course things are never straight forward in renovating an old house and this was no exception.
The existing chimney breast needed to be transformed into a practical, usable space that would look integrated with the rest of the kitchen. However, with the concrete slab of the old chimney floor being higher than the rest of the squeaky timber kitchen floor, a lot of preliminary floor levelling work was needed. The plumbing in the laundry also needed to be pulled out and rerouted to meet building code standards.
The client chose a mix of natural timber bench tops, rugged Spanish backsplash tiles and farmhouse sink with "Preston" style doors for the cabinetry in Classic White. Timber shelving was added above the dining table to display selected books and trinkets. Along with the checkerboard floor tiles which mimic the old lino flooring, the palette has a rustic style well suited to this intimate space.
